Motorists get RM50 offer for summonses

KUCHING: Motorists with traffic summonses issued before Jan 1 this year can settle it a special rate of RM50 from April 21 to May 21.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) would be offering the special rate the entire month.

He added that the police would implement Ops Lancar beginning Tuesday (April 18) and Wednesday (April 19) with the sole focus on routes that are expected to experience traffic congestion.

“Ops Selamat 20 will be re-implemented beginning April 20 for seven days with the theme ‘Rumah Selamat, Selamat Sampai Ke Destinasi’,” he added.

He said for this purposes PDRM will collaborate with other agencies such as Rela and Civil Defence Force (APM) to ensure the hotspot routes such as entrances and exits at toll plazas would not be congested.

Anwar also said that considering the sighting of the new moon for Hari Raya Aidilfitri is on April 20, the federal government has agreed to give an extra public holiday to enable the people to prepare and make plans for the Aidilfitri and return to their hometown.

“For Sarawak and Sabah, both the state governments can declare the date for the public holiday based on their respective Ordinance,” he added.

Anwar said the unity government is committed to ensure the people’s well-being is taken care of under Malaysia Madani in every aspect.

“I really hope these efforts and special programmes related to Aidilfitri will be meaningful to all Malaysians,” he added.
