PADAWAN: Motorists using the Padawan Road connecting Tapah to Teng Bukap here will soon get to enjoy better driving condition.

Gone will be the safety hazard and treacherous bends of the present road once a RM34.9 million Padawan Road Upgrading Project (Phase 1) is completed by September, 2022.

The project was launched by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on Saturday.

According to Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak, the construction work had commenced on September 20 last year.

“This project is a two-way R3 road approximately 15km from Simpang Padawan to Teng Bukap with a width of 6.5m including utility relocation, earthworks, slopes, drainage systems, building and repairing junctions and installation of road signs and guardrails,” the department said.

It is learnt that the progress of the project is currently ahead of schedule with 2.30 percent completed compared to the 1.66 percent estimated completion.

“Once completed, the road will benefit the locals, especially residents along Padawan Road.

“Apart from that, it will also help generate economic development, the agricultural sector, housing as well as be a catalyst for the tourism industry in the Padawan area,” said a JKR spokesperson.

Also present during the launching ceremony was Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong, Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to East Asia Datuk Seri Richard Riot, Assistant Minister of Infrastructure and Ports Development Datuk Julaihi Narawi, Tarat assemblyman Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus, and Serian Resident Tuah Suni.
