KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), aiming to bring new dimensions to research activities at Unimas.

Serving as a platform to bid for national and international research grants, this collaboration also aims to explore new research areas that will have a significant impact on the communities.

Unimas vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi and UTP vice chancellor Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib were the signatories on behalf of their respective entities.

In his opening remarks, Mohamad Kadim said Unimas strongly emphasised the importance of research, innovation and commercialisation as part of the benchmark index (KPI) in implementing research-oriented teaching and learning approaches.

He added through this collaboration Unimas will be able to explore new research areas in line with the national needs.

“This MoU signing is also supporting the Ministry of Education’s aspiration to further enhance collaboration among higher learning institutions in a win-win situation that will lead to advancement in research and innovation,” he explained.
