MoU inked on maritime education and training collaboration

KUCHING: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was inked between Malaysian Maritime Academy Sdn Bhd (MMASB) and Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM) and Yayasan Sarawak and University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) marked a significant step forward in their commitment to maritime education and training in East Malaysia.

According to a press release, the collaboration marks a pivotal moment in advancing maritime education and industry in the region.

“By leveraging the expertise and resources of MMASB, ALAM, Yayasan Sarawak, and UTS, the partnership aims to enhance the quality of maritime education, training, and research activities in Sarawak.

“We are happy to join forces with Yayasan Sarawak and University of Technology Sarawak.

“This partnership not only signifies our shared ambition to cultivate a skilled maritime workforce and drive innovation in the maritime sector, particularly in East Malaysia but also aligns seamlessly with ALAM’s transformation journey to become the Maritime University of choice in Asia”, it said.

ALAM added that it will contribute its expertise in curriculum development, training methodologies, and industry connections to ensure the highest standards of maritime education are delivered.

Yayasan Sarawak and UTS bring valuable local knowledge and academic resources to the partnership.

“Through their involvement, the collaboration aims to address the specific needs and challenges of the maritime industry in Sarawak, fostering economic growth and sustainability in the region.

“We are excited about the opportunities this partnership presents for our students, faculty, and the maritime community in Sarawak.

“By combining our strengths and resources, we can better equip our students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the maritime sector,” it added.

The MOU will be effective from the date of its execution for a period of three years.

signifies a unified effort to elevate maritime education and training standards in East Malaysia.
