KUCHING: The role of teachers is not only focused on imparting knowledge to students but also on guiding them to become excellent personalities.

Utilities and Telecommunications (Utility) Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the theme for Teachers’ Day 2022, which is ‘Guru Tunjang Sekolah Sejahtera’ is very appropriate to appreciate the roles of teachers as important individuals.

“Teachers not only impart knowledge to students but also strive to ensure that students have a good personality and an acute sense of competitiveness.

“Teachers are important icons entrusted to educate, encourage and shape the future of excellent students.

“Through the Teachers’ Day theme this year, it is hoped that teachers will continue to increase their efforts to shape the personalities of students from various socio-economic backgrounds.”

Abdul Rahman, who is also Pantai Damai assemblyman, said this during the Sarawak Arts School Teachers’ Day celebration held at Auditorium Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah, Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak (SSeMS), yesterday.

Principal Pendi @ Nurul Iman Sadi said the theme of this year’s Teachers’ Day is very much in line with the role of teachers in the formation of comprehensive students.

According to her, it is also in line with the aspirations and mission of the art school which is to develop and polish the potential and talent of students in all fields.

“To ensure SSeMS remains relevant in the world of education and one of the schools of choice among parents, co-academic activities including STEM and language-related especially English are also emphasised.

“It also aims to address the issue of student involvement and achievement in co-curricular activities, sports and arts.”
