TANJONG MANIS: The Sarawak government has approved allocations under the Village Expansion Scheme and Resettlement Scheme (SPS) for residents outside Tanjong Manis to settle down in the area.

The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) in a news report quoted Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh saying that the initiative, under the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA), will boost housing development with well-equipped facilities.

“Most of the people who work in Tanjong Manis have been here since the 90s and are still staying in Rumah Pusaka.

“There are also those who speak up about wanting to live in Tanjong Manis as their hometown. I’ve been made to understand that it is already approved by RADDA’s Village Expansion Scheme and Resettlement Scheme.

“Citizens outside Tanjong Manis are eligible and allocations have already been approved by the committee,” he said at the Hari Tanjong Manis dinner in conjunction with the 50th Golden Jubilee celebration of Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) held recently.

He said the implementation of the SPS Tanjong Manis scheme provides residential lots complete with basic facilities such as water supply, electricity and road network to accommodate and meet the needs of the low-income people.

The effort is in line with the long-term development plan of Tanjong Manis.

“Our hope is that for any of those who are interested in settling down and becoming residents, we will develop SPS so that we can provide housing lots just like Darul Hana in Kuching and Kemuyang in Sibu,” he said.

Len hoped that all the projects implemented will go smoothly without any land-related issues hindering the progress.

Also present was Tanjong Manis MP Yusuf Abdul Wahab and STIDC general manager Datuk Hashim Bojet.
