THE Kota Samarahan substation will be moved to Asajaya as a long-term solution to overcome power outage problems in Simunjan.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the ministry has submitted a proposal to obtain an allocation for a project that uses a Medium Voltage Covered Conductor (MVCC) distribution line from Asajaya to Simunjan which is 45 km long.

“The main cause of power outages in the Simunjan area is due to long distribution lines that are exposed to external elements such as bad weather conditions, lightning strikes, (disturbances) from animals and trees.

“To deal with the problem, the source of electricity supply to Simunjan has been moved from the Kota Samarahan substation to the Asajaya substation which has shortened the distance from 50 km to 42 km,” he said.

He said this in reply to a question from Awla Dris (GPS-Simunjan) during the question-and-answer session today.

Earlier, Awla asked if there was any definite plan to deal with the frequent occurrence of blackout issues.

Abdul Rahman said that among other causes that cause electricity supply disruptions were increased load of its capacity of transformers, damage to supply devices and vandalism.

“In the event of a power outage, the public can contact the Customer Care Center at 1300-88-3111 or through the SEB cares application which operates 24 hours a day,” he said.
