KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association (PSM) will overhaul the coaching structure of the national sepak takraw squad soon, said its president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan.
He said national sepak takraw legend Ahmad Jais Baharun, who is now the national squad head coach, is likely to take over as technical director.
“We had previously decided that Ahmad Jais would be the head coach, but in a recent discussion with MSN (the National Sports Council), (there were talks) to have him serve as the technical director.
“We will have to get MSN’s approval before confirming the matter,” he told reporters after chairing the PSM Supreme Council Meeting at Titiwangsa Stadium, last night.
According to Mohd Sumali, the coaching staff of the national men’s sepak takraw squad would also include ATM Guardians coach Aswadi Abdullah and two national sepak takraw legends, Suhaimi Yusof and Mohammad Zulkarnain Md Arif.
Meanwhile, he said PSM would revise the initial target of two gold medals set for the Cambodia SEA Games 2023, which will be held from May 6 to 16.
“I have informed the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) that there is an addition of one chinlone event that we can participate in…so we will inform about the (new) target later,” he said. – BERNAMA
