KUCHING: Centex Commercial Services Sdn Bhd today launched a ‘Kaleng Kueh’ exhibition at Heritage Central Gallery in Jalan Masjid.

The chief minister’s wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang officiated at the soft launch.

The aim of the exhibition was to preserve Sarawak’s traditional cakes.

Juma’ani was given a tour of the exhibition which displayed traditional cakes such as penyaram, bongkol, apam, bingka, takir and kuih rangin.

Kaleng is a Sarawak Malay term which refers to tiffin carriers, widely used in Malaya around 1800 during the British rule.

Earlier, Juma’ani attended the opening of a September sale programme featuring a fashion show on the evolution of Sarawak songket and keringkam textile arts by local designers such as Datuk Asfarena Samion, Harizan Khaider dan Wan Bainon.

The sale, from Sept 25 to Sept 26, offers songket and keringkam products with discounts of up to 60 percent.
