MIRI: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting said people should all come together in order to move on as one great nation and ensure peace and harmony.

Ting said this in his Easter Sunday message released today.

“Everyone is free to openly practise their traditions and religions without any hindrances and we thank God for such harmony and unity in Sarawak,” he said.

“As we celebrate the Holy Week, it is with great pleasure and joy we receive messages wishing us ‘Happy Easter’ from friends of all races.

“This is indeed a beautiful reflection of the multi-racial and multi-religious spirit in Sarawak.

“All this is due to the good governance of our government working together with all the people of Sarawak,” he pointed out.

Ting added Sarawak was blessed that its people were living together peacefully and harmoniously.

Meanwhile, Miri mayor Adam Yii, in his Easter message, called on Christians in the city to spread love and unity.

“I pray that all Christians will take this Easter opportunity to show love and care for their families, friends and colleagues.

“Please spread the Easter message of hope and love to those in society who are suffering so that they know there are people who care for and love them.

“We need to reach out to them and show kindness to them and offer them our friendship and support and help them overcome or lessen their burdens and pains in whatever way possible,” he added.

Easter Sunday is when Christians all over the world commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ more than 2,000 years ago, three days after he was crucified on the day that was celebrated now as Good Friday.

Good Friday and Easter Sunday are among the holiest days in the Christian calendar.

“In Miri, as is the case throughout Sarawak, Christians celebrate Easter in an atmosphere of peace and harmony,” he explained.

He added they could practise their faith publicly in freedom and without any hindrances or barriers.

“We must give thanks to God and to all our brothers and sisters from all religions in Sarawak for this peace that we enjoy in our beloved Sarawak,” said Yii.
