KUCHING: The agriculture industry is incorporating technological components in its process for it to be future-proof and attract younger talents.

Department of Agriculture (DOA) paddy and grain division senior assistant director Jafaruddin Ali said presently the industry has been modernised.

“We must understand the background of paddy cultivation. People always see the industry as being not very modern and developed. This is untrue.

“However, to appeal to the younger generation, we need to include and apply technology in the paddy cultivation industry itself,” he said when speaking to reporters at the CENTEXS Paddy Testbed programme at CENTEXS Santubong today.

At the same time, Jafaruddin said that it is important to gain a comprehensive understanding of the history and practices behind paddy cultivation.

In order to engage the younger generation, he said that it is crucial to incorporate and utilise technology in various aspects of the paddy cultivation industry.

“We can see that the technology or seeds that is being used by CENTEXS are of 297 modern varieties.

“In terms of machines that they (CENTEXS) use, they need to include other technologies like Internet of Things (IOT),” he said.
