KAPIT: Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong and Belaga assemblyman Datuk Liwan Lagang donated food items to folk in their respective constituencies ― from Sungai Pila, Sungai Metah, Sungai Merit and a stretch of the Rajang River below Punan Bah and Merit areas.

A boat was hired to transport the items for immediate distribution to the folk affected by the movement control order.

The items included rice, sugar, salt, biscuits, coffee and tea, and benefitted 20 longhouses comprising 250 families.

Deputy Kapit Resident Galong Luang and Kapit District Office led by Cerisologo Sabut and assisted by officers Robert Anyaw and Kanchin Manggong travelled up the Rajang River to brief the respective tuai rumah of the aid on Wednesday and to supervise the distribution.

Ugak said when he received a call from folk relating their plight, he immediately set his service centre into action.

He thanked Kapit Resident’s Office and Kapit District Office for their assistance.

“It is important to make sure there is no duplication on the allocation of food assistance (someone receiving more than another) to ensure fair share.”

“For every family, we assist them with rice, sugar, coffee, tea, salt and biscuits. There is no problem with vegetables because they all plant vegetables,” said Ugak.
