KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has been true to his word in fighting for the rights of Sarawak, says Igan MP Ahmad Johnie Zawawi.

He said since Abang Johari assumed the role of chief minister, he had driven numerous excellent efforts such as attaining five per cent State Sales Tax (SST) from Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS). Sarawak has also succeeded in getting the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) part of the Federal Constitution through the recent amendment to Article 1(2) of the FC.

“Abang Johari is a far-sighted leader in making Sarawak a developed state by 2030,” he said in conjunction with Abang Johari’s fifth anniversary as chief minister on Jan 13.

Ahmad Johnie said this huge agenda had been inspired since Abang Johari was appointed as chief minister in 2017 with the creation of the slogan ‘Sarawak First’ in formulating socioeconomic development for the prosperity of the people.

“The chief minister is also known as a leader who cares for the wellbeing of the people in the rural areas by providing large allocations in the state budget,” he said.

He noted that these allocations were to develop the rural areas especially with regard to basic infrastructure such as roads, water and electricity supplies.

On Igan parliamentary constituency, Ahmad Johnie said the construction of Batang Igan Bridge and Batang Lassa Bridge were high-impact projects which would bring socioeconomic development to the people, adding that these mega projects were highly anticipated by the constituents.

“As MP and on behalf of the all the people in Igan parliamentary constituency, I thank the chief minister for making these bridges a reality,” he said.

He said Sarawak under the leadership of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) helmed by Abang Johari always prioritised the welfare of the people by introducing various initiatives for the people’s interest regardless of race, religion and culture.

“The Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) initiative clearly indicates Abang Johari’s care and concern for the welfare of the people who have been badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

Ahmad Johnie said all these initiatives and vision of the chief minister had given confidence to the people and this was reflected in the huge mandate obtained by GPS in the recent state election.
