BINTULU: The Public Works Department (JKR) has been urged to take stern action against contractors or concession companies not doing their work well in the construction of the Jalan Bakun flyover.

Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said he had received many complaints from the local community on the problems faced due to the delay of construction.

This had not only disrupted their movement but their safety was also compromised as the site was without safety features.

“Based on the information we received, some of the contractors appointed to carry out work did not perform well.

“I think the relevant authorities should replace them with contractors who are able to do better as Sarawak has many other contractors,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday .

He said stern action must be taken against errant contractors and companies regardless of their ‘special background’.

“It is also understood that construction work at Jalan Bakun has been delayed for more than half a year.”

Tiong said work on the flyover should have been completed last September, but was interrupted due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the implementation of the movement control order.
