KUCHING: Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni lauded the decision to limit the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration to only three days.
It is a welcomed change, he pointed out.
“The flexibility to allow Aidilfitri for three days is a relief to the community,” he said when contacted today.
He said currently the state of Sarawak is facing a record high Covid-19 infection cases that have landed almost all its zones in the red category.
“The government is now working to beat the infection rate while trying to convince the community to immediately register to receive the vaccine in the national immunisation programme but at the moment it still has not achieved a satisfactory level yet.
“Permission for the three-day Aidilfitri celebration must be received in compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) especially pertaining to the ban on organising open houses,” he said.
Lukanisman said while there will be those dissatisfied with the decision, thinking that it will deny them the right to celebrate Aidilfitri, everyone has to make sacrifices to fight the infection.
“The cooperation of the people is needed and for me, a good cooperation from the public to the government is needed to guide them in living their lives in the new normal,” he said.
At the same time, the MP also hoped that the enforcement authorities remain calm while being firm when reprimanding SOP flouters and issuing compounds.
“The current situation is a bit stressful on the emotions and affect the mental health of the family when the inter-zone restrictions are tightened which will affect plans to return home,” he said.
He also called on the people to utilise technology to remain connected with each other despite being separated.
