BARAM: The planned establishment of the Majlis Pengurusan Komuniti Kampung(MPKK) is a political game of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, the ultimate aim is to take over the state from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“A deputy minister from the PH government had toyed with the idea of appointing local community leaders aligned to the PH.

“When he realised that such appointments were the prerogative of the state government, he and his state cohorts decided to form the MPKK to replace the ‘Jawatankuasa Keselamatan dan Kemajuan Kampung’ or JKKK.

“This was despite the federal government’s decision to allow Sarawak to retain the JKKK after the last general elections,” he said at the meet-the-people session at Kampung Long Jeeh here yesterday.

Uggah added that the formation of MPKK would disrupt the unity, ties and harmony especially in the longhouse and rural village communities.

There would then be two different entities trying to serve them but with different approaches and political affiliations.

“Now we are seeing many rural communities statewide who are voicing their opposition to MPKK.

“They are rejecting its formation because of its ill intentions. The GPS government is also rejecting MPKK,” he said.

Uggah explained that this was because the GPS government had wanted to protect Sarawak’s rights.

“When we lose our political power, we will lose control over our rights as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) agreement and our wealth,” he said.

Meanwhile, he assured the Orang Ulu community that the Section 6 perimeter Survey operations would be extended into their areas as well following their requests.

He said the operation was to identify their native customary land from the state land and certainly not a scheme to rob the people of their land as alleged by a certain opposition leader.
