KUCHING: State Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders have expressed their dismay at the various “fake news” that went viral on social media on the mechanism and remuneration scheme for the proposed Village Community Management Council (MPKK).

In a joint statement issued yesterday, they urged anyone who wishes to clarify the matter to directly contact the PH Sarawak secretariat through any of the PH component parties’ members at the grassroots level.

“Firstly, we would like to clarify that the monthly allowance of the MPKK chairman is RM500 and not RM3,500 as being circulated on social media.

“The MPKK secretary, on the other hand, will receive RM300 a month and not RM2,300. Members of the MPKK committee do not receive any monthly allowances. They, however, will be paid an attendance allowance of RM50 per meeting or a maximum of RM300 a year. The MPKK must have not more than six meetings annually.”

The statement was jointly signed by Amanah Sarawak secretary Abang Abdul Halil Abang Naili, Bersatu Sarawak state liaison chief Alkaf Jaziri and Sarawak DAP secretary Alan Ling.

They said the allowances would be paid by the federal government through the Rural Development Ministry in Putrajaya.

“The amounts would be banked in directly to the bank accounts of the MPKK office bearers and not through the District or Resident Offices in Sarawak.”

According to the statement the MPKK model for Sarawak differed from the model described in the TATACARA MPKK page on the Ministry of Rural Development website which applies in states governed by Pakatan Harapan.

The application form for MPKK Sarawak is available from PH parties’ representatives.

“The form on the Ministry of Rural Development website does not apply to Sarawak,” it added.
