KUCHING: The proposed Federal Village Committee Management Council (MPKKP) has turned out to be a political tool for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) to divide and control the rural people in order to win in the next state election.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister cum Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated that the weaponising of this council came to light when Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng himself recently “confessed” that it is indeed a “tool” to subvert and weaken the existing Village Development and Security Committee, and ultimately the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

On Oct 27, Lim, in his address when officiating at the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak’s annual convention in Miri claimed that the MPKKP is one of PH’s “weapons” in the coalition’s strategy to capture Sarawak in the next election.

Lim who is also DAP secretary-general stated that the MPKKP in Sarawak would help facilitate the administration of development funds for villages and longhouses, and be a bridge between the federal government and the grassroots.

Responding to this, Abdul Karim described the strategy as similar to colonisation in the past.

“No government in the world except the PH would deliberately implement a programme or policy to disunite its people,” he said during a press conference at Wisma Baitul Makmur here, yesterday.

“They want us to split up while Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is trying its best to unite us.

“This is because they (PH) know that by splitting us, they would be able to make inroads into Sarawak. This is exactly what Lim’s MPKKP strategy is all about.”
