PADAWAN: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has reported a surge in Rural Transformation Projects (RTPs) for 2023.

MPP chairman Tan Kai said the council had successfully implemented a total of 103 RTP projects totaling RM16.315 million throughout the year.

He added the significant increase surpasses the accomplishments of 2022, which saw the implementation of 73 projects valued at RM12.999 million.

He attributed this success to the concerted efforts of the MPP team and key stakeholders.

“Each state assemblyman is entitled to a RM5 million RTP grant annually. The head of the RTP project implementation team rests with the Kuching Residen office, overseeing critical aspects such as contractor selection.

“Meanwhile, technical implementation is facilitated by local councils, the Public Works Department (PWD), the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID), as well as other utility agencies,” he said in a statement today (Dec 31).

Tan also pointed out the crucial role of the RTP grants in MPP’s financial landscape.

“The mainstay of the local council’s revenue is derived from assessments, which are crucial for providing essential services to residents such as rubbish collection, street lighting, sewerage treatment, and road and drain maintenance.

“Government grants, particularly the RTP grant, play a crucial role in facilitating development, upgrading of facilities, and community progress,” he added.
