KUCHING: Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang has warned all contractors within Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) area to complete their projects as stipulated in their contracts.

He would not hesitate to act against them should they contravene the rules and regulations of the council and the terms of their agreements, he said when inspecting a delayed drainage upgrading project in front of SMK Jalan Arang yesterday morning together with Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

MPP had in two meetings told the contractor to speed up the project before the height of the rainy season at the end of last year.

The RM900,000 project has passed its deadline so the contractor has promised to speed it up and get it completed by February.

“You see, what I have feared is coming true,” said Lo who went back to the area after a downpour yesterday afternoon.

Pointing to the flash flood, Lo said it was what he wanted to prevent. The flood caused inconvenience to road users and students in the school.

“So I am warning the contractors, all of them, to do a proper job and they should cause minimal inconvenience to the public,” he said, adding that he was not interested to hear excuses.

The drainage project is financed by the state government. Once completed, it will ease flooding in the general area and around the school.
