KUCHING: Malaysian Red Crescent Stampin District comprising SJK Chung Hua No 5, Kuching and SMK Bandar Kuching No 1 successfully organised a community service at the Sarawak Society for the Deaf at Jalan Laksamana last Saturday from 8am to 1pm.

The objective of the community service and visit was to learn more about the deaf.

The visitors enjoyed learning the basic fundamentals of sign language from their experienced trainees, Ernest Ting, Joanna and Yeo Suh Chan.

After that, the visitors participated in a general cleaning before having chicken rice for lunch at a restaurant.

The Sarawak Society for the Deaf (SSD) will hold a Charity Food Fair at the Association of Churches premises at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho here on July 28. The event is meant to raise funds for SSD to implement projects which provide educational and training support to its members to improve their lives.

SSD also runs sign language classes to enable the deaf to communicate better.
