KUCHING: The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Sarawak on Friday received a donation of GBP30,000 (approximately RM165,000) from the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) Foundation, a charity trust registered in the UK.

According to MRC Sarawak vice-chairman John Lam, the donation was to supply protective essentials for frontline workers at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“Today, we donated 266 sets of intensive care unit (ICU) personal protective equipment (PPE), 565 sets of non-ICU PPE, 658 sets of cartridge respirators as well as 2,000 sets of N95 face masks to the frontline workers at SGH.

“It is hoped that this contribution can help cover the PPE deficiency issue among SGH health workers as well as help reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission among the community and frontline staff in the state,” he said at the handover ceremony on Friday.

Further elaborating, he said with the protective essentials provided, it is hoped that the SGH frontline staff will also be able to treat Covid-19 patients to prevent the occurrence of a third wave.

Lam also thanked the LSEG Foundation for being concerned about the welfare and needs of healthcare frontline workers in the state.

Meanwhile, a LSEG Foundation representative said the donation was one of their corporate social responsibility (CRS) efforts in helping medical centres dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic.
