MIRI: Datuk Lee Kim Shin handed over a minor rural project (MRP) grant totalling RM20,000 to Sekolah Tinggi Persendirian Cina SM Pei Min.

The Sarawak Minister of Transport said the grant would be used to upgrade the library facility as well as the online teaching and learning centre at the school.

“Library is very important for both teachers and students to look for information, especially for their course work or homework.

“Thus, it is crucial for a school to have a complete library facility,” he said on Tuesday (Sept 21).

Lee stated that even though technology was very advanced nowadays, reading materials like textbooks and printed books remained important as reference materials.

“Although technology is on the tip of everyone’s fingers in this era, it still cannot compete with the advantages of textbooks and printed materials that remain as the greatest reference.”

He added that he would always provide support to schools to improve infrastructure to benefit the students.

After the handover, Lee visited the school’s new administration block, which is equipped with various facilities like auditorium, multipurpose space and reading area, among others.

Meanwhile, principal Liau Kok Wei thanked Lee for the grant and noted that the school had been receiving assistance for the past seven years.

Also present was the school board chairman Khor Ooi Long.
