BETONG: Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation as prime minister proves that he upholds the country’s constitution, said Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu.

According to him, democracy in Malaysia is still strong, well-understood and practised diligently by the leaders and people alike.

“When a prime minister no longer has the support of members of the Dewan Rakyat, he is required to resign as stipulated in Article 43 (4).

“Therefore, we fully respect Muhyiddin’s decision. Few know the difficulties he faced while leading the country throughout the pandemic,” he said when contacted today (Aug 16).

In this regard, Rentap hopes that the new prime minister will lead the country sincerely and plan economic growth, prioritise the people and not his own interests or cronies.

“This is also the stand of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS),” said Rentap who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Youth chief.

He also thanked Muhyiddin for his service over the years.
