MUKAH:  Community leaders in Mukah and Dalat strongly object to the formation of Village Development Community Council (MPKK) in their respective districts.

“We, ketua masyarakat and ketua kaum (community leaders), strongly object to the formation of MPKK in Mukah and Dalat districts initiated by Pakatan Harapan (PH) Federal Government,” they said in a press statement during their gathering at a hotel here yesterday.

They said the rationale behind the objection was that the formation of MPKK would cause disunity and disharmony among the people in the villages, longhouse and housing estates in the towns, and among communities in the long-term.

According to them, MPKK is seen as putting two captains in a ship and will thus bring chaos in an area or local community.

They also said the management and role played by the current Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) had been recognised. They had helped to take care of harmony and unity in a multi-racial and multi-religious society.

“Current community leaders are appointed through proper procedure by the Sarawak government and in accordance with the law,” they said, adding they had good personality, were educated and able to serve with integrity.

Mukah Division Temenggong Hendi Suhai who led the gathering gave a short briefing.
