OYA: The state government plans to transform Mukah Division into a development centre in the near future.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the main thing that needed to be expedited at this time was to complete all basic facilities including clean water supply, electricity and road network.

“For Mukah area, I together with the elected representatives here including Dalat, Balingian and Tellian have a new approach to develop it.

“The most important thing is to complete all water, electricity supply and socio-cultural projects that have been approved by the government but have been disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Hopefully, starting this year until 2025, whatever we have approved will see fruition, including a boutique hotel in Dalat,” he said during the launch of Melanau Heritage Gallery here on Saturday (May 28).

Abang Johari stated that the state government also planned to build several new road networks in the area, including linking Balingian to Tellian.

“I am confident that when completed, all this will give a positive impact to the whole of Mukah.

“Similarly, the Melanau Heritage Gallery which features the rich culture and artifacts of the community in Mukah will be one of the main tourist attractions in the future.

“In fact, I also approved the request of Dalat assemblywoman Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah for another building to showcase the treasures of Melanau music and culture next to the existing gallery.

“We will develop the new phase after this. At the same time, I also approved Fatimah’s request to build a new waterfront near this gallery, “he said.

He said all the projects requested were for long-term benefits to build the economic potential of the locals.

“We are also building a new road near Sungai Ud that will continue to the coastal road, and we have the Batang Igan Bridge, as well as a new road from Igan to Bawang Assan, Sibu.

“I am confident that all this can be done with the efforts of the Gabungan Party Sarawak (GPS) government to find new sources of income for the benefit and well-being of the people, especially in rural areas,” he said.
