MUKAH: A district-level Community Policing Carnival was held at Kampung Petanak community hall here last Saturday (Oct 24).

It was aimed, among others, at increasing awareness of certain current issues such as the Covid-19 pandemic and drug abuse.

Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo thanked all the departments and agencies involved in organising the half-day event.

He said children need to be inculcated with religious values besides providing them with formal education.

“All religions teach good moral values which is the essence of living, and this is among the noble values that need to be instilled among children,” he said when officiating at the event.

The former Balingian assemblyman added that the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) was formed because the government, led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, realised that there is a need for it as Sarawak is a multi-religious and multi-racial state.

Dr Ahi Sarok of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) was the facilitator at the event.

Acting deputy Mukah Division Resident Shafrie Saili, acting Mukah District officer Pleadzman Ahip and Mukah Division Temenggong Hendi Suhai also attended the event.
