KUCHING: Having multilingual road signs is a  tradition that Sarawak has practised in the past and will continue to do so now and in the future, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday (August 5), he said appropriate languages were used for road signs in each locality.

“We have both Bahasa Malaysia and English as Sarawak’s official language,” he said.

He pointed out that the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly was the only one in Malaysia which allowed other languages to be used alongside Bahasa Malaysia.

“Actually, more English than Bahasa Malaysia is spoken in the august House,” he said.

“In Sarawak, we take pride in racial and religious harmony as well as respect for each other and our Sarawak ways of life,” said Dr Sim.
