MARUDI: A car-motorbike collision here at Jalan SMK Telang on Wednesday afternoon resulted in a loss of life.

The fatal crash occurred when a car went into an opposite lane and rammed onto a motorcycle ridden by a mother and child.

Due to the crash impact, both the mum who rode the bike with her daughter as pillion, were thrown off the machine.

In the 1.20pm incident, the rider, identified as Lawi Ramlie, 33, died on the spot due to severe injuries while her seven year-old daughter, Clarrisse Leo sustained injuries to her body. This was disclosed by Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu.

However, the car’s driver and his female passenger were reportedly not injured in the incident.

Alexson said, prior to the crash, both Lawi and her daughter were on their way to Marudi from Brit.

The injured victim was taken to Marudi Hospital.

“The car was coming from the opposition direction (Marudi to Brit); upon reaching the area, while negotiating a sharp bend, the car’s driver had lost control of the car before skidding off and rammed onto the motorcycle,” said Alexson.
