KUCHING: A suspect, wanted for a homicide near RPR Batu Kawa on Monday, was arrested yesterday.

According to Padawan district police Chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, the man was detected as a result of a police patrol around a housing area at Taman Everbright Estate here at 10.30am.

He stated that the suspect initially tried to hide his identity from the police by wearing a ‘baju melayu’, but his actions failed.

“According to initial information received, members of our Police Patrol Car Unit (MPV) were able to detect the vehicle used by the suspect when it was in the yard of a house at Everbright Estate.

“After interviewing the two homeowners, the team identified one of them, 25-year-old Moses as the prime suspect and the other 37-year-old believed to be a friend of the suspect,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Aidil added that the two suspects were detained and were now in Siburan lockup for further investigation.

He said police also seized a Perodua Viva vehicle, a mobile phone, a pair of shoes and a hat at the scene of the arrest.

Meanwhile, the suspect is being questioned to assist in finding a knife used to kill the 37-year-old victim, Abang Hisalihin Bahthika.

Aidil said that the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code and that the suspect would be produced in Kuching Court today (Feb 19).

On Monday, the victim was found dead with multiple stab wounds to the body around 3.45am at the crime scene.

A Sarawak General Hospital’s (SGH) post mortem revealed that the man had a wound as wide as 2.5cm on the back of his left chest, two wounds behind the upper left rib, and two lower part wounds as wide as 4.2cm and 2.1cm.
