KUCHING: The Magistrates’ Court here today ordered an unemployed man, suspected of killing his own grandmother, to be remanded for seven days to facilitate investigation into the case.

The 27-year-old suspect was arrested on Sep 21 in a half-conscious state and later confirmed positive for methamphetamine.

The suspect has two previous records of drug abuse.

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the victim could have been murdered between 7.30pm on Sunday and 6.30am Monday.

It is believed that the grandmother was murdered after she refused to give money (RM30) requested by the suspect.

Police investigations showed the 66-year-old victim died after being stabbed several times with a sharp object (believed to be a knife) by the suspect, who then ran away and hid in an empty house near the scene, before being arrested.

The suspect is believed to be staying with the deceased.

The deceased, identified as Dara Mohamad was found unconscious on a chair in her house in Kampung Rampangi, with cuts on her face and chin, and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
