KUCHING: Sarawak bodybuilder Buda Anchah’s success in winning two gold medals in the 54th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship held in the Maldives recently clearly shows the great achievement of Sarawak’s athletes.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the 50-year-old bodybuilder emerged as the champion in the men 65kg category and the men 50 to 59 for 80kg category.

“Congratulations to our own Badang Sarawak, Buda Anchah who has won two gold medals in the tournament at Maldives.

“This is a great achievement by Sarawak’s athletes at the international level and it also shows the spirit of Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban!,” he said in his Facebook post yesterday.

Abdul Karim also said Buda defeated Bichitra Nayak from India and Tran Bao Quoc Vuong from Vietnam to win his first gold medal in the 65kg category.

“He also defeated the finalists from India, Suresh Kumar and Sarvanan Hariram who respectively took second and third place in the event for men aged 50 to 59 years,” he said.

In the championship, Malaysia also won a silver medal through another Sarawak athlete, Dr Malvern Abdullah in the men for 60 kg category.

Female athlete, Philomena Dexclyn Siar also competed in an encouraging performance when ranked fourth in the women’s physical category.
