KUCHING: The upcoming construction of the Malay Heritage Museum in the Darul Hana area is a good initiative by the state government to preserve the culture and traditions of the Malay community here.

Rural Electricity Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi revealed yesterday when interviewed during the Museum Heritage Darul Hana workshop organised by Pelita here.

He said the museum was among the Eleventh Malaysian Plan (RMK11) development projects under the Sarawak Museum Department.

It would be built after the completion of the Darul Hana Nosque and the residencies here.

Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Pantai Damai assemblyman, added, “In addition to being the centre of attraction to tourists from within and outside the country, the museum is also expected to record the history of the Malay international heritage.

“When the villagers moved and experienced a new phase of life, many changes occurred in the Malay culture and customs. Some will be diminished or become extinct.”
He explained that the construction of the Malay Heritage Museum was announced by the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
