Music fest likely to draw 12,000 revellers

KUCHING: At least about 12,000 revellers are expected to let their hair down at the Rainforest World Music Festival this year.

According to Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, response to the festival has been satisfactory.

“Thus far, we have sold over 7,000 tickets … which is good because it is actually more than what we expected,” he said.

He believes local music buffs will drive ticket sales even further given their tendency to buy at the last minute.

“With this, we hope that we will be able to achieve our 12,000 target for this festival,” he said at the launching of the Rainforest World Music Festival booklet at Baitulmakmur II Building on Tuesday (June 14).

In a related development Abdul Karim disclosed that more performers will features this year compared to previous years.

“This year, there will be 60 acts by performers from around the globe along with a special segment by Ukraine.

“And since the festival will be held in an open space, the wearing of face masks will not be mandatory.

“However, it is reminded that patrons take care of themselves when attending the festival,” he added.
