MIRI: The 14th edition of the Borneo Jazz Festival is here again and the organisers are hoping to attract more than 4,000 music lovers to it.
The event is scheduled to be held from July 19 to 21 (Friday to Sunday) at Coco Cabana Miri.
Fifteen bands from around the globe will be participating in the event, revealed Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin during a press conference yesterday afternoon.
The event will also hold youth and outreach programmes such as music workshops which include “Borneo Jazz DJ Search” to help aspiring local musicians.
Lee said to ensure that traffic flows smoothly during the event, the organisers would provide shuttle buses for the attendees.
“I have also requested the Miri Immigration Department to increase its manpower to ensure the smooth traffic at the Sungai 7 (Malaysian-Brunei border) immigration checkpoint during the festival period,” he said.
Speaking of the checkpoint, he was delighted that its system had improved with the introduction of Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) last Tuesday.
“I am happy to see that finally, the Customs system has been improved. All they have to do is scan the code using the printed VEP every time cars cross the border,” he said.
To get the VEP, vehicles owners need to log onto www.customssg7.my.
“Participation in the workshops is free of charge,” said Eveyln Hii of the No Black Tie or the event’s director.
