Muslim development programmes in all divisions

KUCHING: As many as 1,000 to 1,500 are expected at each series of Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) ‘Wawasan Ummah Gemilang 20-30’ programme which will be held in various divisions of Sarawak with the first one held here yesterday.

In March and April, the programme will continue in Samarahan, Mukah, Limbang, Miri, Bintulu, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Kapit, Sarikei, and Sibu.

The participants are heads of communities, mosque or surau committee members, association representatives, villagers and students.

“This programme is a way of the Islamic Council to develop local Muslims in line with Section 5 of the MIS Ordinance,” said MIS president Datuk Misnu Taha.

“Section 5 of the ordinance says that it is the duty of the Islamic Council to encourage, assist and strive for the Muslim community’s economic and social advancement as well as wellbeing in line with Islamic laws.”

He said this at the launch of MIS Wawasan Ummah Gemilang 20-30 at Kompleks Islam Sarawak here yesterday.

He pointed out that various agencies under MIS such as the Sarawak Islamic Department, Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak, and others were making efforts to ensure that the strategic plan agreed upon could be implemented well.

The objectives of the programme are to place emphasis on the importance of Islamic leadership, share the aspiration and mission of MIS as well as the roles and functions of their agencies, and so on.

Also present at the programme launch were Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, State Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip, and Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
