KANOWIT: Islamic Education Committee (Panitia Pendidikan Islam) of SMK Kanowit in collaboration with the SMK Kanowit Islamic Education Association held a breaking of fast recently.

The event is an annual one meant to strengthen relationship between the Muslim teachers and students as well as educating the younger generation on religious aspects.

According to the principal of SMK Kanowit, Abang Ahmad bin Abang Abdul Wahab, the breaking of fast was organised to maintain the good ties among the students and their teachers.

Breaking of fast ceremony continued until ‘Solat Fardhu Isyak’ and ‘Teraweh’ and dinner which was contributed by the Muslim teachers of SMK Kanowit and well wishers.

During the breaking of fast, SMK Kanowit Islamic Education Committee also presented contributions to five needy students. The contributions were given by Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YAPEIM). Each of the five students received RM100.

Apart from that, during the month of Ramadan, the school’s teachers of Islamic Education also organised other activities including ‘Takzirah Khas Ramadan’, Ramadan and Raya video show, ‘Tadarus Al-Quran’, Ramadan quiz contest, Azan contest and ‘Hafazah Surah Yasin’ contest.

A total of 110 Muslim students took part in the activities organised during the month of Ramadan.

SMK Kanowit Islamic Education Committee also organised a ‘Muhibbah Raya’ programme by presenting contributions to needy students.

The contributions were in the form of daily necessities such as rice, cooking oil, sugar, flour and snack in conjunction with Hari Raya and also to lighten their family’s burden.
