KUCHING: Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and Kuching North City Commission) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi has urged Muslims in Sarawak to adhere to the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

The Pantai Damai assemblyman said compliance with the SOP was important to ensure efforts to curb the Covid-19 pandemic were successful.

“All SOPs issued including those during the festive season are for the benefit of all,” he said.

He said this at the Bubur Lambuk Distribution and Pantai Damai Prihatin Contribution Programme at Kampung Selang Ulu today (May 4).

Dr Abdul Rahman stressed that the people should be vigilant and careful, adding the culture of visiting during the festive season should only involve immediate family members.

“We should not organise open houses because these can increase the risk of Covid-19 spreading,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rahman said mosque and surau management committees must also prepare special SOPs for Solat Sunat Aidilfitri.

“Thus far, permission has been given to perform Solat Sunat Aidilfitri at mosques and surau and the management committees have to prepare complete SOPs.

“The difference this time is that no banquet is allowed after completing the prayers,” he said.
