Nabbed for selling lottery without licence

BAU: Police arrested a suspected unlicensed lottery agent at the five-foot-way of a hawker centre last Saturday afternoon.  

According to Bau District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon, the 25-year-old woman was arrested around 5pm by a team from the Bau District Criminal Investigation Division.

“She was conducting a public lottery sale without a licence at the hawker centre.

“Police also seized an alphabetised white paper, a black pen and RM97 in cash,” he said in a statement.

Poge added the woman had no previous criminal record and that she and all the seized items were taken to Bau Police Station for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 4A (a) of the Open Gambling Act 1953.

If convicted, the suspect can be fined not less than RM20,000 and not more than RM200,000 or jailed up to five years.
