Nafiizwan, Sivasangari named outstanding players of 2018

KUALA LUMPUR: National squash players Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan and S. Sivasangari were announced as the 2018 men’s and women’s Outstanding Player of the Year respectively at the Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) gala night here on Friday.

The 32-year-old Mohd Nafiizwan had a fantastic year when he claimed the country’s historic bronze medal at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and Asian Games bronze in the men’s singles as well as the men’s team event gold medal.

The 20-year-old Sivasangari on the other hand, had won the Asian Games women’s singles silver and team bronze besides claiming the British Junior Open (BJO) under-19 and National Championships titles.

Sivasangari, who is pursuing her higher studies in the United States,  could not attend the ceremony held at the Royal Selangor Golf Club, here.

Meanwhile, Siow Yee Xian (boys’) and Aifa Azman (girls’) won the Outstanding Junior Player of the Year award.

All the winners received a trophy and certificate.

Aslo present at the ceremony were Olympic of Malaysia (OCM) president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, Squash Rackets Association of Malaysia president Nik Razeen Adam Daud and CIMB Group’s chief people officer, Datuk Hamidah Naziadin. – Bernama
