KUCHING: Staff of Naim Group of Companies’ Kuching office recently welcomed the opportunity to spend a meaningful weekend by participating in the wetlands planting activity at the Kuching Wetlands National Park (KWNP), said a press statement yesterday.

The activity formed part of the collaboration between Naim and the Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) for an environment conservation and awareness programme commencing in 2015.

Naim’s Head of Corporate Communications, Caroline Yeo said the activity was in line with the Group’s commitment in its triple bottom line of people, planet and profit.

“We want to inculcate the mind set among our staff about the importance of conserving and preserving the environment, and that it is everybody’s responsibility to do so for our own and also our future generation’s sake.

“We planted about 300 seedlings of “Bakau Kurap” trees. It was indeed a fun yet meaningful time spent,” said Yeo.

FDS’ Executive Forester, Mohd Nor Firdaus Haji Sariee commended Naim for its efforts in conservation activities.

“KWNP was one of the few Ramsar sites in the world. The site was depleted due to the flood mitigation project in Kuching. Now, about 66,590 “bakau” trees have been replanted, covering an area of about 83.94 hectares.

“As the wetlands is an important sanctuary for some of the endangered species of wildlife and marine animals including proboscis monkeys, crocodiles and Irrawaddy dolphins, it is important for us to preserve the wetlands.

“We understand that Naim has also embarked on various conservation activities in Miri and Bintulu, and we greatly commend Naim’s efforts in this regard. We look forward to more of such initiatives in time to come,” added Mohd Nor Firdaus.
