SIMUNJAN: Batang Sadong MP Datuk Sri Nancy Shukri and Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris donated cattle to Malay villages here in conjunction with Aidiladha, as in previous years.

Nancy, who is also Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, and Awla performed the symbolic handing over of the sacrificial meat in four villages, namely Kampung Nanas, Kampung Hijrah, Kampung Sageng and Kampung Kelka today (July 11).

Earlier, Nancy also witnessed the slaughtering activities and performed a symbolic butchering in conjunction with Aidiladha at the Sri Simunjan Rest House.

She said the distribution of the sacrificial meat was to help the asnaf or hardcore poor Muslims and also to help those in need.

“In the meantime, it also shows the community spirit is at its greatest during Aidiladha.

“Many villagers can be seen working together to ensure that the distribution goes smoothly, and they do the slaughtering activities together to ensure that the meat is distributed fairly,” she added.

This is the spirit of sacrifice shared by all parties during Aidiladha, she said, adding it is for this reason that Aidiladha is known as the feast of sacrifice.

This year, the Batang Sadong and Simunjan representatives donated 13 cows each while the Samarahan Muslim Welfare Trust Board (Lakis) donated 10 cows, making a total of 36 cows.
