KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi is confident of retaining his Kapit seat in a three-cornered fight.

Nanta faces candidates from Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS).

“I am confident that I will retain my parliamentary seat because of what has been done on the field.

“We have a mechanism or a system where my service centres all over Kapit operate and serve the people in the area.

“My officers and personnel from the service centres have done their jobs to meet with the people while I perform my federal duties.

“With the work that has been done on the ground, I can say that I am confident that I will be able to defend Kapit under the GPS ticket,” he stressed.

He said this after the handover of writs to GPS candidates for the 15th general election (GE15) at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters here today.

The caretaker federal Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs also commented on the new faces in the GPS candidates’ list.

He said the new blood gave a good image to GPS as this was in line with what the people wanted.

“In GE15, we have new faces in the line-up. We also keep a few of the experienced representatives as well.

“The selection is very detailed, making sure who we pick as candidates is the best.”

Nanta is going up against Khusyairy Pangkas Abdullah (Pakatan Harapan) and Robert Saweng (Parti Bangsa Dayak Sarawak).

In the previous general election, he beat Paren Nyawi of Democratic Action Party (DAP).
