KUCHING: Kapit MP Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has fired back at Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh over his claim that the Kapit parliamentary constituency is also part of the area affected by the Ulu Baleh logjam recently.

Referring to Wong’s statement published in a local newspaper on Thursday (Sept 2), Nanta countered, “As Kapit MP, I vehemently dismiss Wong’s claim as reported in the newspaper.”

For the record, he clarified that the boundary of the Kapit parliamentary constituency was located far away from the actual site of the source of the logjam.

“Such inaccuracy of Wong’s ‘knowledge’ or ‘no-knowledge’ of the incident and most of all the areas in Kapit Division shows clearly that he has little understanding of the rural areas, especially Kapit Division.

“Wong should know better about the rural areas in Kapit Division as he had been a minister in Sarawak’s Cabinet for a very long time before he left in 2019,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

He pointed out that Wong had previously been a senior member of the Sarawak Cabinet and a senior leader in Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister also noted that Wong hailed from Sibu, a town close to Kapit, and yet knew little about Kapit.

“I put it that he had little care for Kapit in all those years, when he was in position to help Kapit. Just ask him how often did he visit Kapit when he was a senior leader in the state?”

Nanta believed that many people in Kapit and Song districts could only remember Wong’s occasional visits, and those were only to meet his SUPP branch officials and members.

“No one can identify nor remember his deeds for the two districts. With that, I hope Wong will be more careful in the future before he trumps up such wild allegations.”
