KAPIT: Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW), Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is also Kapit Member of Parliament, disclosed that a second bridge will be built side-by-side Sungai Yong Bridge. “The second bridge, costing RM20 million, will be built very soon because the contractor has been identified and appointed.

The project site is expected to be handed over to the contractor to build the second bridge across Sungai Yong this February,” said Nanta, who began a two-day working visit here on Monday, accompanied by the ministry’s secretary general, Datuk Borhan Bin Dolah and some 20 senior officials.

The purpose of the visit was to attend the development briefing as well as to make site visits to various projects under the Kapit parliamentary constituency. On Monday morning, the visitors attended the development and implementation of project briefing at the State Complex here, followed in the afternoon by site visits to three longhouses built under PPRT (Hardcore Poor Housing Project) namely Rumah Semut, Sungai Engkatit, Rumah Untang Jirau, Sungai Yong and Rumah William Unchat, Sungai Yong. On Tuesday, the visitors went for a walkabout at Kapit Town including visits to Longboat Jetty at Bazaar Baru, Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Cina Bletih, Jambatan Sungai Yong and the implementation of RES (Rural Electricity Supply) and submarine cable across the Batang Rajang to reach the longhouses across the river.
