KUCHING: The launch of the state-level National Month and Kibar Jalur Gemilang (KJG) 2021 will take place next Monday (Aug 16) at the State Legislative Assembly building, Petra Jaya here.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will officiate at the event, organised by the Information Department (JaPen) in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) celebrations this year.

The theme of last year’s celebration, “Malaysia Prihatin,” has been retained to honour the perseverance of Malaysians and the government’s efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

Participants, numbering 100, are required to wear double face masks as per standard operating procedure guidelines set by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee.

Among the activities are the raising of the Jalur Gemilang accompanied by the Negaraku, a screening of ‘Malaysia Prihatin’, the symbolic handover of the Jalur Gemilang, and the HKHM 2021 exhibition.

Abang Johari is expected to flag off the 14-vehicle KJG convoy, comprising various state and federal government agencies. The convoy will travel 34.4km around the city.

To commemorate HKHM this year also, Sarawak JaPen also organised an online competition, Selfie Wefie Merdeka 2021 Sarawak, on its Facebook page, and KDS Tik Tok Merdeka Challenge on the TikTok Khabar Dari Sarawak account, both of which will be launched on Aug 18.
