KUCHING: A National Task Force has been set up to study the demarcation elements on illegal entry of foreigners through ‘rat trails’ (illegal routes), said deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Mazlan Mansor.

“The matter is also undertaken in the Ops Covid and Ops Benteng to curb the entry of illegal immigrants into the country and identify the illegal routes into Sarawak,” he told a press conference after handing over of Inspector-General appreciation certificate ceremony at Sarawak General Operation Force (GOF) headquarters here on Friday.

He urged members of the public to assist the police in channelling information in order to stop illegal immigrants entering the country.

Meanwhile, a total of 60 of officers and rank and file personnel from the Sarawak Brigade received the IGP appreciation award.

The award is meant for officers and personnel who have shown high integrity when performing their duties and those unperturbed by corruption.

Mazlan disclosed that the value of corruption that were declined amounted to RM163,000 between 2009 and 2020.

“Clearly this is a great success and the IGP is also impressed with those who managed to show a spirit (of integrity) as emphasised by the government thus ensuring our force to be clear of corruption.

“It is hoped that this will be a catalyst to other officers and personnel to not be associated with corruption not only in Sarawak but the whole country,” he said.
