KUCHING: A total of 1,878 individuals in Sarikei will receive financial assistances in line with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai celebrations.

Urban Development and Natural Resources Assistant Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh said this is organised by the Sarikei Community Welfare Department through their outreach programme.

“Today, there were 50 who had received their financial assistance and hamper for the Hari Raya and Gawai celebrations in the Sejambak Kasih Raya Gawai 2021 outreach programme.

“Earlier this morning, I visited some of the recipients to present the assistance symbolically.

“There are a total of 1,878 recipients in Sarakei for the outreach programme, they will also receive their assistance through their bank accounts,” he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

Len said the assistance comprised cash as well as hampers containing kuih muih (cakes) produced by the locals in Kuala Rajang.

“This will help improve the local economy here. With the annual assistance, it can help the recipients to buy items in preparation for the festive season.

“This will enliven spirit of the celebration and we hope more can benefit from it next year,” he said.

Also present were Sarikei social welfare officer Tang Kee Lee and community leader Bidai Ginsang
