KUCHING: Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (Bank Islam) has assisted more 394,000 customers from all its customer segments during the implementation of its moratorium period.

In a statement on Sunday, Bank Islam chief executive officer Mohd Muazzam Mohamed said the bank has been proactively adopting viable options to help its customers in coping with the economic fallout due to the Covid-19.

“We empathise with our customers and have been assisting them to deal with the economic fallout from the pandemic impacting small businesses and retail customers.

“These customers make up a sizeable portion of our financing portfolio. Covid-19 has brought upon us challenges that none of us anticipated before, and unfortunately, some have suffered greater than most,” he said.

Mohd Muazzam said due to the plight of the customers, the bank had granted a six months moratorium, adding that the bank would ensure that customers were taken care of after the period.

“Strategic plans have been outlined, and the bank stands ready to ensure customers’ financial needs are taken care of, and they are ready to navigate through this challenging environment. All they need to do is to come and talk to us,” he added.
