Need for KL to step up unity initiatives

SAMARAHAN: The federal government has been urged to step up initiatives to strengthen unity in the country.

In making the call Deputy Community Welfare Minister Mohammad Razi Sitam said culturally diverse Sarawak can be a model in terms of unity.

“What needs to be focused on by the government is efforts to increase the programme of strengthening unity among communities throughout the country.

“Especially through the initiative of the Neighbourhood Unit Area (KRT), the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) as well as the active involvement of non-governmental organisations (NGOs),” he said during the Rahmah 2023: Let’s Be Healthy Sarawak Level Programme by the Department of National Unity and National Integration (JPNIN) at Kota Samarahan Indoor Stadium, yesterday.

As the minister responsible for the well-being of the community in Sarawak, he said he welcomed the implementation of this kind of programme.

“At the department and ministry level, we strongly encourage and hope that the 1,062 KRTs throughout Sarawak can together make this Gerak Rahmah Programme a success.

“It is the government’s hope that this programme runs smoothly and achieves the set goals,” he said.

Detailing the Gerak Rahmah Programme, he described the new initiative by JPNIN under the Ministry of National Unity as being capable of empowering, enhancing and intensifying the activities of KRT towards community development.

The JPNIN team comes up with one activity each month to be implemented simultaneously on Saturday either in the third or fourth week.

Starting with the Let’s Be Healthy Programme yesterday, the following months will be filled with different activities such as Let’s Patrol the Voluntary Patrol Scheme’s (SRS) First Programme in March, Lambuk Porridge Cooking (April), Unity Week Celebration (May), Unity Plogging (June) and so on for the next month.

The Samarahan Division hosted the state level programme yesterday which implemented by KRT Tambirat Lot, KRT Pasar Asajaya, KRT Asajaya Ulu and KRT Kampung Jaie.

JPNIN Sarawak Director Dirwana Azool was also present.
